The one thing I love as much as writing is helping other people follow their own writing dreams. I’m passionate about stories, and if I can help you tell yours–there aren’t even words for how happy that will make me.
That’s why I developed The Plotting Workshop. It’s an 8-week, 25-lesson online course that will teach you the exact method I use for planning my own novels. By the end of the course, you’ll have a flexible, intuitive road map that will guide you through the first draft of your first (or next) book.
WHY AM I THE ONE TO TEACH YOU HOW TO PLAN YOUR NOVEL?
I’m a published author. My books Viral Nation and Rebel Nation were released in 2013 and 2014 by an imprint of Penguin Books. I studied creative writing at the University of Nevada and at Goddard College. I’ve spent my entire adult life working toward the goal of being a writer and I’ve learned a lot along the way about writing and publishing.
ABOUT THE PLOTTING WORKSHOP
The 25 assignments in The Plotting Workshop were designed to help you plan your novel before you start to write it. This is exactly how I prepare to write a novel myself, so I know it works. In fact, as you’re working on this course, I’m busy planning my next book using the exact same process.
If you follow them all, you’re going to have turned your novel idea into a concrete plan. You’ll be able to follow your plan from the first page of your first draft all the way to the end. (And if you follow up with the A Novel Idea course, you’ll have help with that!)
WHAT TO EXPECT
You’ll sign up for The Plotting Workshop through Teachable.com. You’ll have instant access to the entire course, forever, plus support in a private Facebook Group as you work your way through it. We’ll work on developing characters and setting, building a solid story arc, making a plot board, filling it with scenes, and writing a synopsis for your story. You’ll finish the workshop with a solid roadmap through your novel.
WHAT COMES NEXT
You’ll start with FOUR assignments. We’re jumping in with both feet. Cannonball style.
You’ll also get a list of items you’ll need to complete this course. All but one of them are dollar-store cheap or things you might already own. The most expensive thing on the list is a book, Christopher Vogler’s The Writer’s Journey. Technically, you could complete the course without the book–but you’ll get much more out of it if you can get your hands on a copy. Think of this like a college course and The Writer’s Journey as your text book.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO PUT INTO IT
This course is kind of paradoxical. You might think–wow, eight weeks is a long time to spend just planning to write. You probably have a great idea that you just want to start writing now. But, once the course gets going, it’s very fast paced. It assumes that you’ll be able to work the equivalent of an hour a day on plotting your novel. That can be an hour every day or three or four hours a day on the weekend or half an hour in the morning and then catch up on Sunday. What ever works for you.
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
If ‘write a novel is on your bucket list–if it’s something you’ve always wanted to do, but didn’t know where to start–then The Plotting Workshop is for you.
If you’ve started a hundred times, but never gotten to The End, then The Plotting Workshop is for you.
After you sign up, you’ll get a welcome email that will direct you to the secret The Plotting Workshop Facebook page. It’s full of the most awesome writers. You want to be there.
